What Is Your True Value To Customers And Employers?

As I scheduled my sabbatical I started thinking about what is my true value to the company I work for. Often we think of our value in terms of what tasks we can accomplish. In the past I thought my greatest value to my employer was that I could do lots of things.

Independant Film Making - Your Time Has Come

I doubt we will ever see an end to blockbuster movies and big budget dramas. To be honest, I don't want to see them end. Hollywood makes a lot of fantastic movies. However, with technology such as it is one no longer needs a huge budget to make a good movie.

Now Is The Time For Obama To Talk To Hamas, Cuba, and Venezuela

The Guardian is reporting that President Elect Barack Obama is planning to communicate with Hamas. This is a huge break from the Bush doctrine; "We don't negotiate with terrorists". This is a welcome change and frankly is an obvious course of action.

AJC.com is reporting that the Fayette County Georgia school system is asking public school teachers to give back their raises in order to save $4,000,000. They say that this measure is needed to keep the school system afloat.

Parity in the NFL? Think Again.

After this season can we please stop talking about parity in the NFL? In 1993, the last NFL season without a salary cap, there were five teams with at least eleven wins and only eight teams with six or fewer wins. Fifteen teams had between seven and ten wins.

Did closing the Enron Loophole bring oil prices down?

When I first heard of the Enron loophole and how it would immediately drop oil prices by 50% I was very skeptical. However, here we are about four months after Congress voted to close the loophole and oil is down nearly 50% from it's high.

If you know any Jets fans please give them a hug today. They will need it. After all, these poor people thought that the Patriots losing Tom Brady would make the Jets a legitimate team. It's quite sad really. To have all that hope shattered in one Sunday afternoon is terrible.

Easy and Delicious Breakfast Smoothie

Is Nuclear energy the solution?

I've long heard that nuclear power is too expensive to be a viable solution to our energy problems. However, with Oil at $140+ a barrel doesn't the equation change? It's interesting that both McCain and Obama give at least modest support for Nuclear energy.

Don't buy a Mac without knowing the modulation density - How I deal with Craigslist spammers

Several months ago I was looking for a laptop. I saw some Macbook Pros on Craigslist that looked good and emailed about them. As it turns out, most Mac laptops on Craigslist are scam ads. I usually just ignore the emails from scammers but occasionally I like to have fun.
